Today we are looking at the best 1/36 RC trucks. RC trucks are a lot of fun and while most people look for something big, powerful, imposing and generally something in the 1/10 scale. This for some is too large, too expensive and for some kids it can even be too powerful. With a 1/36 scale RC truck though. You get all of the fun of RC trucks, but you do so without them needing a large space to be stored, taking up a load of room in the trunk of the car and in some cases their smaller size makes them much better for a child. Also with them being so small (in some cases just five inches) you can race them around the house.

In the remaining article, we will look at a few things you need to know about mini RC trucks. We will also be sharing with you three of the best you can get right now.

Things To Look For When Buying A Mini RC Truck

Who Is The Truck For?

Now you may be thinking, what does it matter? But it actually does matter. If you are purchasing a 1/36 RC truck for a child, you want to make sure that you are getting a truck that is going to be easy for them to drive. Going fast is awesome and is a large part of what this RC hobby of ours is all about. But when speed comes at the expense of control and fun, then things change. Instead, you may want to look at a truck that is a little slower so they will be able to control it better. For an adult though the opposite is true. You want to make sure you are getting the best performance so you can really cut loose and go crazy fast!

Look At The Price & Don’t Rush In!

The price range of mini RC trucks is pretty crazy (as you will see from our reviews down below) there is such a jump in prices depending on the truck that it can be very expensive, we are talking hundreds of dollars. Or it can be under fifty bucks. Finding the RC truck that is right for you can be really tough. We always suggest that you do not just buy the cheapest and the first one you see. You should shop around and not just look at the prices, look at what each truck offers and then decide if you feel it is good value for money. Do not just buy an RC truck because it is cheap at the same time do not just buy an expensive one because you think it will be the best because it is expensive.

Most Micro Trucks Have Short Battery Life

We feel that the next big evolution in RC trucks has got to be batteries as still we are looking at 45 minutes at the very most out of a decent priced battery on the larger RC trucks. Most 1/36 RC trucks will come with the basic battery which in most cases will give you around 20 minutes off a good charge. Some even use just regular old AA or AAA batteries! So make sure that you know going in that you are not going to be getting a ton of driving time off a charge with a micro RC truck.

How Tough Is The Truck?

If you are looking to purchase a 1/36 RC truck then we assume you are looking to take it off road. That is what RC trucks are all about, taking wild jumps off mounds of dirt, wheel spinning in the mud and just ripping around an awesome dirt track! Your RC truck is going to take quite a bit of abuse. So you will want to make sure that the one you are looking at is up to the task of taking a bit of abuse. Some of the cheaper priced RC trucks are just made with plastic.  Crash one of these into a tree and you have a major problem on your hands. For serious off road driving then you want to make sure the RC truck you get is made with some strong materials and is designed for extreme off road driving.

What Kind Of Tires Does the Truck Have?

If you are new to 1/36 RC trucks or just RC trucks in general having to look at different wheels may sound very daunting. But actually it is quite simple. While there are many different kinds of tires out there, the easiest way is to look for spikes or smooth tires. When we say spikes we of course mean small rubber ones. These help with traction when you are off road. Smoother tires are better if you are driving on more flat surfaces. In all honesty you can have fun with any kind of tires, but it is worth knowing that spikey is better for rough and smooth is better for flat.

Our Top 1/36 RC Trucks (Reviews)

Here we have three different and pretty cool 1/36 RC trucks. We are putting these through their paces and letting you know what is good and bad about each of these trucks. These are three very popular trucks.  From our review, you will have a good idea which one is better for you.

1/36 Micro-Desert Truck RTR Review

team-losi-micro-rc-truckWe thought we would start with the most expensive 1/36 RC truck. This can cost as much as $300 and is one of the more high quality micro RC trucks out there. Known as the Losi Micro-Desert Truck. This is one designed for off road use. At around six inches in length, you will be amazed at how strong and fast this RC truck is.

The mini RC truck has a fantastic suspension system which is great if you plan on taking it off a few jumps and the top speed is very impressive. It has a short charge time with around 20 minutes of drive time which we do wish was a little longer. But there is no denying that this is one of the best performing 1/36 RC trucks on the market right now. We love the micro desert grip tires which are just perfect for going fast off road.

Due to the way it is made, we feel that this is one of the most long lasting RC trucks out there. You would have to wreck this really, really bad in order to damage this truck. Not that we are suggesting you try of course. In all we really like this truck and do feel that it is one of the best made 1/36 RC trucks out there, but the near 300 bucks price tag does mean it is one that is only for people who are already RC truck enthusiasts and want the best of the best.

Pros:

  • Strong design
  • Fantastic suspension system
  • Goes really fast
  • Comes with tires that are ideal for off road driving

Cons:

  • Price is very high
  • 20 minutes of race time

1/36 Micro-T Stadium Truck RTR Review

team-losi-micro-rc-stadium-truckNext up we have the 1/36 Micro-T Stadium Truck RTR. Which is a bit lower priced at under $200. This is one of the smallest 1/36 RC trucks you can get as it is 5 inches long! It is still pretty powerful though and you will be very impressed with how fast this can go. The wheels they have used are more flat so we feel this is a RC truck that is going to be better on flatter more solid ground than rougher terrain. But the wheels are still pretty good.

This RC truck also has a well made body.  The suspension they have used will ensure that it will not come off too bad when it crashes! It has been said many times that the 1/36 Micro-T Stadium Truck RTR handles like a dream so for a child we are sure they will have no trouble driving this truck.

The included battery when fully charged only gives you around 15 minutes of racing time which is a little disappointing. There are also reports about the battery losing its charge fairly quick so that might be something to look out for.

Pros:

  • Awesome design
  • Quite robust
  • Designed to take punishment!
  • It is tiny

Cons:

  • Only 15 minutes of race time off a charge
  • The battery life has some issues

ECX BeatBox 2WD Monster Truck RTR Review

ecx-micro-rc-truckThe ECX BeatBox 2WD Monster Truck RTR is the cheapest 1/36 RC truck on this list. You can buy this for as little as $35. However, do know this is the bare bones basic micro RC truck. It is fun gift that children will enjoy. Good news is the toy has a decent speed.  It also should not cause them too much trouble when it comes to handling. It has LED lights under it so it lights the ground as it drives which is pretty cool. The wheels are foam wheels! They are ok for inside the house, but we would not drive this outside, especially if the ground is wet.

Look this is cheap and you get what you pay for. The battery life is not all that great and corners have been cut. Not just on the wheels. The body also feels much flimsier compared to more expensive 1/36 RC trucks. This is more of a toy than a proper RC truck. But it would serve as a low cost way to see if RC trucks are something your child is into.

Pros:

  • Very, very low price
  • Ready to run out of the box
  • Short charge time
  • LED’s under the truck look cool

Cons:

  • Cheaply made body and wheels
  • Not much driving time, even on a full charge

So What Is The Right 1/36 RC Truck For Me?

Out of the three we have looked at today we feel that they all offer something different. The 1/36 Micro-Desert Truck RTR and the 1/36 Micro-T Stadium Truck RTR are ideal for people who do not mind spending a lot of money to get something fast, well made and is going to last a long time. We would not recommend one of these RC trucks for a child who has never used a RC vehicle before. The ECX BeatBox 2WD Monster Truck RTR maybe more of a toy than an actual RC truck. But if you get this for a child and they like it then you will know that 1/36 RC trucks are something they like and you can then look into buying a better and more expensive one.
