Ok, so my two boys and I have been lucky enough to get to try out some awesome RC helicopters recently. We got the chance to see what is the best RC helicopter for outdoor use and also find out which is the longest battery life RC helicopter out of the three we got to look at. I always thought that an RC helicopter would cost a fortune and require some kind of Ph.D. in order to fly, but I was very surprised at just how affordable and easy to fly RC helicopters can be. So keep on reading to see what out of these three RC choppers are the best!

Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter Review

Syma S107_S107G R_C Helicopter reviewThe first RC helicopter we tried out was the Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter which as of writing is available for right around 20 bucks which is a great price. The first thing that I noticed (and my youngest son liked to point out time and time again) was just how small this thing is. It literally can fit in the palm of your hand which is really cool, but also made me a little nervous about the quality. The quality though is actually pretty high as it is made with some very strong metal and plastic so when you do crash is… which you will. The helicopter will be ok. One thing that is worth mentioning is that this is not the best RC helicopter for outdoor use as they actually recommend you only use it indoors.

As far as flying goes, the Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter is very easy to get grips with. You go up, down left and right. That is all you need to know, there is some pretty high tech gyroscope technology in this thing that lets it stay upright as best as possible. My kids picked this up right away and were flying all around the house with it. Now we just ignored the instructions and took it outside and it worked ok, but if there is a strong wind, you can forget about it! There is an included lithium battery and after around 30 minutes of charge time, you get roughly ten minutes flight time. Which I know does not sound like a lot, but for an RC vehicle of this size, I have come to see this as standard. It may not be the flashiest or even the longest battery life RC helicopter, but it is a lot of fun, cheap to buy and it can take a real beating so it is well worth the 18 to 20 bucks.

Pros:

  • Great price
  • Easy to learn to fly
  • A decent amount of flight time
  • Great for kids of all ages

Cons:

  • Not recommended for outdoor use
  • One of the more basic RC helicopters

Haktoys HAK303 Mini 3.5 Channel RC Helicopter

Haktoys HAK303 Mini 3.5 Channel RC Helicopter reviewThe Haktoys HAK303 Mini 3.5 Channel RC Helicopter is slightly bigger than the one we looked at and it also has a slightly higher RRP of around 30 bucks. I really like the look of this. It has a more sporty kind of look to it and with the flashing lights, it looks really cool when it is flying in the air. By the way, this thing has a 50 feet range which is awesome. The kids and I took it outside and flew it as high as we could and it was awesome. You may not find this on a list of best RC helicopter for outdoor use, but you can still have fun with it outdoors. It is made with strong plastics and metal. There is actually a fair bit of give to this which is great as it means it is more robust if you do crash into a wall or slam into the floor.

Flying the Haktoys HAK303 Mini 3.5 Channel RC Helicopter was a joy. Out of the three helicopters, this one here was the easiest to fly and maneuver. That is because of the gyroscope technology they have used, which I will not even pretend to understand. All I know is that it makes it so this RC helicopter is very hard to crash. This is not the longest battery life RC helicopter as you get around 8 minutes of flying time from a 30 minute charge which is a little bit disappointing. My boys had a blast with this, as did I. If you want a C helicopter that you can really fly around and be in total control of, you would be better off with this one here.

Pros:

  • Has a really cool design
  • Nice and easy to fly
  • Is very robust
  • Price is very reasonable

Cons:

  • Battery life is not the best
  • Is very popular, so quite often goes out of stock

Cheerwing S107/S107G Phantom 3CH 3.5 Channel Mini RC Helicopter

Cheerwing S107_S107G Phantom 3CH 3.5 Channel Mini RC Helicopter reviewLast, but not least we have the Cheerwing S107/S107G Phantom 3CH 3.5 Channel Mini RC Helicopter which like the first chopper we looked at, can be had for around 20 bucks. The one that arrived at our door was red and it looked so darn cool. It has a real ready for war kind of vibe about it and out of the three choppers we got to test out. This was the one my kid’s thought looked coolest. It is made with the same kind of materials as the other two so even if you do have the odd crash, I do not see it breaking or suffering any major damage. Like the other two, this is not the best RC helicopter for outdoor use, but that did not stop us taking it out in the backyard and having a little fun. As it is so compact (can fit in your hand) if there is a big gust of wind, you run the risk of it getting slammed into something, crashed into the ground or blown over your fence! So keep that in mind if you do fly it outside.

As far as the flying goes, I do not think anyone is going to have any trouble with this. Like the other two, gyroscope technology (again, I have no clue what this actually is!) makes it so the helicopter is easy to fly and hard to crash. Out of the three RC helicopters, we looked at this one here is the least impressive when it comes to flight time. The instructions say you get around 6 minutes off a 50 – 60 minute charge which is less flight time and more charge time than the others. But we and other people who have used this can tell you are looking at close to ten minutes of flight time of a charge. Still that extra half an hour compared to the other two is not great, especially if you have impatient kids wanting to fly. Which is a shame as the design is really cool and will certainly get anyone who receives this excited.

Pros:

  • Has the coolest design
  • Available in three colors (red, blue and yellow)
  • Easy to fly
  • Very well made

Cons:

  • Short flight time
  • Takes too long to charge

Things To Know About Buying A Micro RC Helicopter

So I am relatively new to the world of RC helicopters, but I still wanted to make sure that I knew what I was looking for when it came to be the best of the best when it came to the longest battery life RC helicopter. To help you out, here are a few things that you need to think about before you start yelling at your kids that they need to get to the chopper in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice!

Flight Time: Make sure you know roughly how long you can fly for. In my experience, I would say you are looking at anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, with 8 being around the average. It does not sound like much, but unless you want to pay over 100 bucks, around 8 minutes is what you are going to get.

Charging Time: Around 30 minutes seems to be the standard these days. To be honest with you this is not bad at all. Just make sure the kids do not try and fly it before it is fully charged or it will just crash after a couple of minutes!

Easy To Fly: In all honesty, all of the three my family got to check out were very similar to how they controlled. Do not worry that your child (or even your very immature friend who is in their 30’s) will not be able to fly. These are designed to be as easy as possible to fly. But if ease of use is what you are after, fewer buttons on the controller means there are fewer things you need to learn.

So What IS The Best Micro 3D Helicopter With Long Flight Time?

Well, none of the three I got to check out will win awards for the longest battery life RC helicopter. But I and my two kids did have a ton of fun with each of these RC helicopters. Picking one out of the three is quite tough as there is not a whole lot between them, to be honest. The charge and flight time of the Cheerwing S107/S107G Phantom 3CH 3.5 Channel Mini RC Helicopter kind of take it out of the running. In regards to the other two, I would probably suggest you get the Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter as it is easy to fly, well made and can be had for under 20 bucks. The Haktoys HAK303 Mini 3.5 Channel RC Helicopter is around ten bucks more, but if you kid loves the style of it then it is worth getting. Still, if I had to just pick one as the best RC helicopter out of the three, we got to look at. The Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter is the one I pick.
